Bayakoa winning the 1989
Breeders' Cup Distaff
Bayakoa was bred in Argentina by Haras Principal. She was sired by Consultant's Bid out of the mare Arlucea, by Good Manners. In the U.S. she raced for Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whitham and was trained by Ron McAnally.
Bayakoa's first two seasons were spent in her native Argentina, where she placed first or second in 6 out of 8 starts. In Argentina she won the grade 1 Premio Palermo and was a champion miler.
After a modest U.S. racing season at 4, Bayakoa blossomed into a champion at 5, winning five consecutive stakes at one point and closing the year with eight major victories out of nine starts. She won the Santa Margarita, Apple Blossom, Hawthorne, Milady, Vanity, Ruffian, Spinster, and Breeders' Cup Distaff.
At 6 Bayakoa was again named Champion Older Female following her repeat victory in the Breeders' Cup Distaff, the same race that saw the tragic fatal injury of Go For Wand. Bayakoa also took the Santa Maria, Santa Margarita, Hawthorne, Milady, Chula Vista, and Spinster. In the Santa Margarita she finished six lengths in front, despite carrying 127 pounds, a weight she also carried in the Chula Vista.
Bayakoa raced three more times at 7 and then was retired to Allen Paulson's Brookside Farms in Kentucky. She was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1998.
The Starting Field For The 2002, Equinic's Bayakoa Tribute
PP #1 RED STRING 6/1
Representing: Vermont
Trained by: Zgreat
This multiple stakes winning daughter of Red Ransom, sports a record of 20 wins from 32 starts, and has finished in the money at a whopping 94% clip. Her usual running style finds her gunning out to early double digit length leads, and then turning things into a game of 'catch me if you can'! For a large field, this is suprisingly lacking in pace, and if she can hit the first turn clear of the # 13 horse, she may have clear sailing to the wire. However, should she and the #13 horse hook up into a heated speed dual, it could spell curtains for them both. Still, a very serious opportunity for Vermont to score some gold.
PP #2 RUMSON 12/1
Representing: DelPenn
Trained by: Joydevil
This daughter of Take Me Out, may have found a new career as a marathoner, as in her last outing, while stretching out to 14 furlongs, she simply annihilated her field in the Winning Hit Handicap, while drawing off to an 8 1/2 length victory. Brings 3 wins in a row to the plate, and although facing her toughest test to date, she can't be ruled out. She'll be coming hard late, and with a little racing luck, could spring a surprise at very nice odds.
PP #3 AMAD'S NET 56/1
Representing: Queensland
Trained by: Ash77
It can be difficult to find just the right horse to fill the slot for a team's Equinic's marathon races. Queensland found this to be true, but they still come ready to give it their best shot with this daughter of Secreto. She's never traveled beyond 10 furlongs, and lost her last race, a CPU restricted allowance*230 by over 17 lengths. Not likely one to be around at the wire, but the pride of Queensland, win or lose.
PP #4 SHAN'S BIRD 7/1
Representing: New South Wales
Trained by: Manager
This graded stakes winning daughter of Bluebird, looks to be coming around at just the right time. Her best stuff may come between 11 & 12 furlongs, but given a reasonable pace senario to chase, jockey M. Staples may get her up in time to grab a piece of the pie.
PP #5 BOULDER FIREWORKS 16/1
Representing: East West Connection
Trained by: Devineequ2
This girl's best races have been run vs. claiming and starters allowance class competition. She may be in a bit over her head here, but there's no denyingshe gives her 'all' everytime she graces the race track.
Would need to step it up a couple of notches for a piece.
PP #6 SADDLE TETECATE 7/1
Representing: Viking Racing
Trained by: Racelord
This girl hasn't gone beyond 12 furlongs to date, but she sports a pedigree that says she should be able to run all day. If she can handle the added distance, she becomes a very strong contender for a piece.
PP #7 EQUINIC'S CHAMPION(GB) 99/1
Representing: The Terrapin Jockey Club
Trained by: Ildottore
Her name is likely more a dream, then a fact. I do love their utilities, but I can't say the same for Maryland's entry here. This once raced maiden, by the obscure sire, Foyer(GB), may soon find itself in the pre packaged delicacy section of your local asian supermarket after the spanking it's about to receive here.
PP #8 HAPPY SKIN(IRE) 5/1
Representing: Ireland
Trained by: Irishjack
This stakes winning daughter of Thatching, has rolled off some impressive speed figs while going slightly shorter. Has one of the Sim's best (D. Givens) in the saddle, and always has the luck of the Irish on her side.
A major threat.
PP #9 WELL HEELED 23/1
Representing: Missouri
Trained by: Citation
The Missouri entry has been struggling a bit on the minor stakes circuit, and will not find things any easier vs. these. A placing anywhere in the top half of the field would have to be considered a victory. But beyond these games, my oh my, what a sweet broodmare prospect this one's gonna make (Sadler's Wells x Riverman)
PP #10 OUR SWORDS 79/1
Representing: Minnesota
Trained by: Qycao
Set aside her win in a CPU*165 restricted allowance race in week 1124, and this daughter of Polish Numbers has lost her last 7 by a total of 149 lengths. Likely to add a hefty number to that total vs. these. But heck...Not many woulda gambled that Jesse Ventura would have become Governor of Minnesota either!
PP #11 MISS SHELLEY 7/1
Representing: North West Racing Circuit
Trained by: Soonerslew
This stakes winning daughter of Forty Niner packs a big wallop late, and if given any kind of pace to run at, will be making lots of noise in deep stretch.
PP #12 LA FRISCO(IRE) 9/1
Representing: Nexis
Trained by: Desperado2
Winner of last 2, 4 of last 8, and no worse then second in her last 6, tells us that this is a girl to rekon with. Likely to settle mid to rear pack, but can run nearer to the pace if necessary, as seen when winning in week 1201.
A very strong bid for Nexus to medal here.
PP #13 MODE APPEALLING 10/1
Representing: A.S.R.
Trained by: Mullerehen
The A.S R.'s chance for a payday here, may hing on the sprint to the first turn. This girl has never seen anything but the lead over the first 3 calls of any of her previous 8 races. Today however, she will be pushed to the limit by the speed of the #1 horse. This could mean lights out for them both, should they decide to engage in a speed dual over the first 12 furlongs. If she can shake loose however, her recent form makes her a very serious contender.
PP #14 SHANNON'S IDEAS(IRE) 20/1
Representing: Nebraska
Trained by: Jungleboy
Jungleboy's daughter of Generous(IRE), is an 'on again', 'off again' sort. She's been known to run a couple of nice ones in a row, and then toss in a clunker just to confuse the issue. Which girl shows up today? Maybe it's best to see if Davarto's got that answer in his anals.
PP #15 HIS BILL 76/1
Representing: S.E.R.A.
Trained by: Razin4kids
This lightly raced daughter of the obscure sire Fast Topaz, sports 3 wins from 6 lifetime starts. She has really blossomed in her last 2, however may need a bit more seasoning before she is ready to take on the likes of these. If able to step it up, you'll hear a great deal of her name in deep stretch.
PP #16 HIGH PARK 8/1
Representing: Team Independent Unity
Trained by: Dettori
On the plus side, this daughter of A.P. Indy has shown the ability to run on the lead or come from far back. However, on the minus side, she's probably not quite quick enough to keep up with a hotly contested pace, nor does she have that late explosion powerful enough to close with the best of the late commers. She does however, have a fellow named M. Wallace in the irons, and on namesake alone....Well???
PP #17 FOG AMY 56/1
Representing: Germany
Trained by: Harrybear
This girl shows 1 win in her last 8 outings, all vs, $5,000 starter allowance company. The Germans do however brew great beer!.
My Selections:
Win- #12 LA FRISCO(IRE) 9/1
Place- #1 RED STRING 6/1
Show- #11 MISS SHELLEY 7/1
The Bet:
I like the #12 horse alot here.
Let's place a $100 win & place wager on her.
Let's take a shot and front and back wheel her to 'all' (12 w/ All) (All w/ 12) in $10.00 exactas.
Total wager= $520
Good Luck to all Equinic's Runners!
