Grasping the torch in my right hand…I smile at Kate and wish her God Speed in her descent from Camel's Hump. The wind is getting stronger, pushing against me, swaying me. I grasp the torch tightly and close my eyes, feeling small and insignificant upon this mountain mass. I hear the sound of wings and I startle, knowing the altitude is too high for most birds. I watch in wonder as an enormous white horse slowly flies towards me. Ahhhh, he is a beauty, with mane flowing and muscles taut. He lands beside me, shakes his head and words flow into my mind, "Be not afraid, m' Lady. I am Pegasus and I have come come to guide you to The Pastures of Green, for there is a large band of Vikings climbing up the East Side and the mob is approaching from the West. We can have nothing delay the Equinics, for the horses are ready to run with the spirits of the Gods guiding their hooves." I am thinking, "Uhoh, guide me?" and begin to get a bit worried when he stands beside a large rock and nods his head at me, beckoning me. Nervously, I approach. I am not so sure about riding down Camel's Hump on horseback. The trail is steep and rocky in places and Roys has already said that many people have fallen over the side. I hear ManO reminding me of Desiderata's words, "And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should" and I am fortified. From this torch flows the courage and power of the Gods and my job is to bring that light to the Equinics. I hear the sounds of the Vikings and the mob approaching. They are a loud and boisterous group and I will need to leave quickly. Tho my heart begins to rapidly beat, I climb on top of Pegasus, and not finding a saddle and bridle, I grasp his mane. He lunges into the air and I panic, thinking, "oh no, and I thought airplanes were bad". I feel the warmth of the torch and it settles me and with my fear subsiding, I open my eyes to see where we are going. WOW!! I had not realized that Vermont was so very beautiful from the sky. He turns in the air and heads toward home. Pegasus tells me stories of fantasy. He asks me if I would like to see the "Field of Dreams". I begin to wonder how we are going to have time to go look at a painting by Cortez, but I dare not say no. His wings flutter faster and we descend towards Killington and I close my eyes, hoping he knows how to land. Imagine my surprise when we land upon a racetrack that I had not known existed! Nobody is in the stands. Nobody is in the boxes. I jump off his back and look around and…and….suddenly…. Horses appear. Magnificent beasts with muscles rippling fluidly and proud necks lifting. Oh My GOSH!!!! Is that? It CAN'T be!!! But it IS!! Prancing out on the track, heading for the starting gate is Man O'War Alydar, Bold Ruler, Count Fleet, Secretariat, Gallant Fox, John Henry, Go For Wand, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, War Admiral, Kelso, Whirlaway, Ruffian, Forego, Affirmed, Citation, Jim Dandy and oh MY Goodness!!! , my name sake, Lady's Secret. My heart is pounding and the beauty of such greatness silences me. Pegasus is standing beside me and I hear "When the Persian military officer Tigranes "heard that the prize was not money but a crown [of olive], he could not hold his peace, but cried, 'Good heavens, Mardonius, what kind of men are these that you have pitted us against? It is not for money they contend but for glory of achievement!'" "Yes, I think, horses do not run for money or for graded stakes, they run for the sheer enjoyment of running. Pegasus is nudging me and sadly, I realize that we are not to stay for the race. We must conclude our sojourney and deliver this torch. We fly from the 'Field of Dreams" and my mind wanders as we turn towards Pastures. Martin Luther King Jr said, "I have a dream". Dreaming is such an important part of our lives, for without it, we would simply exist. Many eons ago, The Gods conceptualized The Olympics and were willing to forgo animosities in order to compete and bring honor to their countries. Today, I remember all the people who worked so hard to make this event happen and I am gladdened and grateful for the generosities of my fellow players, who each used their talents to ensure that the Equinics was truly a fitting celebration of the Olympics happening in Sydney today. For without everybody pitching in, my dream would still remain just a dream.
We approach Pastures and I see Mike waiting on the infield, surrounded by all the peoples of the sim. Pegausus lands on the track and weary but oh, so excited, I climb down and go forward to give the torch to our very own Sim God, Mike.
