This Grade 1 race for a million dollars brings 12 classy older filly and mares together to run for the honor and glory of their home tracks. These four-footed athletes may not know about the honor and glory part, but they will run because they are born and bred for this. They will run for the sheer good feeling of being faster than others. From their first days in the pasture, where they played and ran with their peers, too now, carrying the colors of their resident states on their backs as they run for the gold.
The morning line does not show a clear favorite, which tells the depth of this field. Multiple stake’s winner W. Affair is a 6YO mare by Black Tie Affair. At home on the Vermont racetrack she won here in a Grade 1, wiring the field. She is owned and trained by Annieb2 and R. Haffner will ride this good mare, listed at 5/1. Also at 5/1 is Babe’s Sheep. This 4YO daughter of Risen Star is owned and trained by Cream. With W. Case in the irons, this former claimer has 10 wins to her credits and was second her last time out in a Grade 2. Rusty Deputy a 6Yo mare by Alysheba is the pride of Qyaco’s stable. She has won well over a million dollars and finished second her last time out in a Grade 3. Last but not least of the 5/1 horses is Cool’s Rack Park. This 4YO filly by Sunny’s Halo won a Grade 3, two races back over today’s distance.
Rounding out the field and with the hopes and mostly the dreams of their owner’s riding on their backs are Ninner Winner, Nine Rae, Revenge Zarb, Queen Robin, Sea Project, Valiant AP, and Country Spring. Anyone of these horses is capable of rising to the occasion and maybe the cheers of the crowd will give them the wings of angels.
